How To Stay Motivated When Losing Weight

Losing weight can be a long, hard, and frustrating process. The key to success is perseverance. If you’ve started a weight loss program and are looking for help in staying motivated, try these following tips.

  1. Step 1

Keep a photo of yourself at your heaviest posted in a place you will look at it often. Placing a photo on your bedroom mirror will remind you each morning of what you’re working to overcome. If you have a photo of when you were lighter, post that in the same place so you can visualize your goal every day.

  2. Step 2

As you lose weight and your shape changes, place new photos next to the old. This will give you visual reinforcement that you are for sure making progress.

  3. Step 3

Record your measurements in a journal. Chart the dimensions of your waist and hips, rather than your weight, because muscle weighs more than fat. If your routine includes working with weights, the scale may not reflect the changes taking place in your body.

  4. Step 4

Vary your routine. Try different activities each day to keep things interesting, and to rest different muscle groups. Change between cardiovascular activities and weight lifting each day to add variety.

  5. Step 5

Remind yourself each day why you are trying to lose weight. Make a list and say it each morning, or anytime you feel like giving in.

  6. Step 6

Have a weight loss partner. If someone is working alongside you it will make the change in lifestyle more interesting. Having a partner also makes you responsible to someone else, which can sometimes spell the difference between an hour in the gym and an hour eating chips on the couch.

  3. Great article. I am a Chiropractor in Reno, Nevada and I do the same thing with my patients. Taking a photo of before care, during care and after care lets the patient see the changes in their posture and it is a very valuable tool. It amazes people to see what they used to look like. I can see how this would be even more dramatic with someone on their journey to weight loss. Keep up the good work helping people to lose weight, it will make us a healthier society.

  6. yeah some good advice here. Also a tip i would add is try to walk as much possible rather than drive everywhere. This may not always be possible, so on the weekends make sure you go for long walks to burn off some fat!

  7. At a certain point you can only eat as healthy, get good sleep and exercise enough.
Once people get older their HG levels begins to fall
So aside from eating right, sleeping well and exercising 20 hours a week I like to take HGH herbal supplements like www.genf20.com and www.genfx.com which are anti aging HGH pills to helps restore HG levels

  9. Motivation really is one of the toughest parts of any dieting/weightlifting routine. I teach aerobics and find that having someone to push you often helps (your step 6). It's tough to get through the slow weeks on your own, or to get back on track after cheating (like many will do this week for halloween).

    Thanks for the great suggestions!

  10. You need to go to therapy to find out what the underlying cause may be. it has to be more than a craving...maybe a hormone imbalance or something medically or mentally out of whack.

  14. Staying motivated is the kicker, for sure. One of my clients has lost over 150 pounds, and reports her thinking habits are what have changed her the most. Also, the history of dance post holds another key... it Has To Feel Good... classic law of attraction / accepted positive psychology theory. Great blog!

  15. Nice post great tips!
I find also doing excersise that is fun and challenging at the same time like the p90x workout. I'm doing them at the moment and is really fun but is really hard work!
Another tip is using a natural juice by Freelife International. It is a goji juice but unlike others it isn't dried goji turned into juice. It is just fresh goji, to keep in all the goodness. It is one of the most nutritionally dense foods on the product and they have a product formulated ofr weightloss partitculary called TAIslim it is so good I lost 2 kilos in the first week. Best thing is that it isn't a meal replacement. I was sceptical but it actually works! I brought it through www.gojiinabottle.com

  18. I find a good tip is to make a chart of what you want to lose and compare constantly. You see fast if you're going off track..

  19. Great post. Losing weight is pretty difficult in the beginning because there's no visible incentive that you can hang on to. Some of my friends started to think of Chirurgie esthétique Montréal, or Plastic Surgery (for those of you non-Montrealers :P). I guess the biggest thing is to remind yourself of your goal and just keep working hard. From my experience, changing up your workout routine every few months also works (for instance, changing your jogging route, going from an elliptical to a treadmill, etc.)
